The diffuser spring sits on the gas diffuser and grips the nozzle so it slides on and off by hand and stays put while you weld. When it loses tension the nozzle rattles and shifts and gas coverage goes with it; when it comes off with the nozzle it's on the floor. Ten to a pack because that's how they go.
